ChangeScape, Inc., a Birmingham-based healthcare business solutions
firm, was awarded a grant from the
Michigan Department of Community Health to develop a health
information exchange (HIE) for the Southwest Michigan region. The grant was originally
scheduled to expire Oct. 1, but has been extended to Feb. 28, 2010.
This grant, initially awarded in September 2008, is one of nine
grants issued to various regions of the
state to develop business and technology plans to electronically
connect hospitals, physicians, allied
health professionals and community health agencies.
“We’re happy with MDCH’s decision to extend this
grant,” ChangeScape president and CEO Mindy Richards said. “There
have been many changes in technology and funding options since we
started this project last September. Now, we’ll be able to design
and propose the
most efficient business and infrastructure models for
the
region.”
“We are so pleased with
the
work of ChangeScape in the
Southwest region and beyond, and we look forward to
their continued input and work as an integral part
of the
State’s HIE initiatives on a go-forward basis,” said Beth Nagel,
MDCH health information technology manager.
Related to the
work on the HIE work in
Southwest Michigan, ChangeScape, in conjunction with
the
Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) Resource Center, is
organizing the Southwest Michigan Physician IT Summit. The Summit, which will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in
Kalamazoo, will provide physicians in
Southwest Michigan
with practical information and advice for implementing electronic
health records systems in their
practices.
“We are happy to support
ChangeScape's physician education efforts in Southwest Michigan
toward the
end of electronic adoption for the
State of Michigan's physicians,”
said Denise Holmes, executive director of
the MiHIN
Resource
Center.
